Finished Hip Flask Sculpture!

Finally, the commission that I got from Richard Starkings, creator of Elephantmen, is finished! Here he is, I handed him over to Richard at Thought Bubble in Leeds yesterday after a nightmare 6 hour journey! >_< Richard was really pleased and everyone who saw it was lovely, I even got a round of applause. :D Hip will be accompanying Richard to all his coventions to sit on the Elephantmen table. Hopefully an excellent advert for my sculpture! :D

I want to sculpt more now...I feel I should make a better sculpture to sit on my table at conventions...something Sailor Moon themed methings! ;)

Shop Giveaway and Good News!!

Hello everyone!
My shop has enjoyed a burst of activity in the last few weeks and I passed 50 sales on Etsy last week. Initially I was going to do this at 50 sales but didn't get round to it...:/
SO! I'm announcing a giveaway on my shop, if you're my 60th sale, you may choose anything from my shop worth up to £10/$15 as a free gift! Wahey!

In other news, I've had a very exciting commission from America to make numerous accessories for a lady's fancy ball jointed doll. I've never seen these particular dolls before, they're called Unoa dolls and are similar to Super Dolfies but seemingly more detailed and way more exclusive!
This customer wants to take her Unoa to anime conventions dressed as every incarnation of Sailor Moon in the manga series.
I say!

There are about 5 incarnations of Sailor Moon, not including her two princess forms, Princess Serenity and Neo-Queen Serenity. I'm not sure if I'll be making anything for those forms or not. But I'm very excited, it sounds like an awesome project and I get to make lots of little things. It's opened up a load of new possibilities for things I could be selling!

First Successful Resin Castings!

A few months ago my parents bought me a casting kit with a jar of silicone and bottle of resin. I unsuccessfully tried to cast some stuff with the silicone mould, but it was so bubbly without a vacuum pump I couldnt cast something without loads of lumps in it! But having bought a couple of tubs of Siligum (brilliant stuff) I've been able to cast a few pieces in plastic. I'm so pleased it's worked, because now I can not only create things easily, I can create a lot of them! Plus resin is stronger than clay and I don't have to worry about it breaking! Here's my favourite cast, Chibiusa's Time Key Pendant. Here it is after I demoulded it.......and here it is when it's all painted and cleaned up. I love how the finish looks quite antique-like! I cast it with gold ink in the resin and painted it with acrylics.

Bristol Con Aftermath!

Hey everyone! Well I'm happy to report that the Bristol Con 2010 was very successful. I sold lots of stuff, met lots of lovely people and basically had a lot of fun. And the best thing of the weekend was that I was asked by Richard Starkings, creator of the comic 'Elephantmen' to make some sculptures of his characters! I'll admit to never having read it, or even knowing who he was, but he walked past my table as I was packing up and started to talk to me about my Usagi Yojimbo figurine. I told him my prices and what references I would need, he went away and came back wth 3 huge compendiums of his comic and gave them to me! So that's my reading sorted for a few weeks, and I can't wait to get started on some sculptures for him.

I've loaded everything I didn't sell onto etsy and folksy, please check them out!

First Official Cake Topper!

Well, this is what I've been working on for the last month. I'm nervously awaiting a reply from the client, I'm really scared they won't like it!! I did enjoy this project, but I can't say it wasn't frustrating at times, especially as I have convention preparations to deal with too, I didn't expect this piece to take so long. But I'm quite pleased with it and I really hope they are too. Fingers crossed!!

I thought I would beguile you with a sneak preview of goodies that I've been making for the Bristol con, if you can spot them through the mess that is my desk. Lots and lots of game-related earrings! I think my favourites are the Zelda Boss Keys and the bo-bombs! I heart bo-bombs!

Wall-e and Eve

My latest cake topper, of Wall-e and Eve from Wall-e. I love that film, it's adorable! I got this commission from Etsy Alchemy and I really enjoyed doing it!
I think at some point in the future, I'm going to persue this cake topper business. This one is for a wedding, and I figure getting married is probably never going to go out of fashion, so I might as well offer my services on the market. Once I've done a few more, I'll start another website and start advertising in bridal shops. Hopefully it should take off! :D

Cardcaptor Sakura Mini Figure

Just a little something I've been working on. Honestly I actually made this out of spite! A girl was offering a job on the Deviant Art job board to make 6 Monopoly counters in the shape of anime girls. She seemed keen for me to do it, then didn't answer any of my messages, and eventually told me she'd found someone to do it cheaper. Cheaper than $10 a figurine! Also because there was nothing exactly like what she wanted on my gallery, she thought I couldn't do it. As I'd been looking forward to doing it despite cutting my prices for her, I was understandably pissed off by this and decided I would make one myself. Although I would never sell this for $10. Never get work of Deviant Art, kids.

It's not perfect in any way, I rather thing the face let it down but it's all good practice!

I sculpted the face with the help of a real gachapon.

The finished item! Not as happy as with it as I'd hoped but oh well!

Peripeteia Character Sketches

I'm glad I've finally been able to get started on the real comic! I finished the thumbnailing tonight, so I thought I'd design most of the characters. Some of them are based on my real friends, and the unsavoury looking guy with the earring is based on a picture of an arsonist I found in the paper. Woo!

Cake Topper Commission

Honestly, if I could have spent more time on these, I would have. I basically got this commission on Tuesday and have just finished it in time for the guy to pick them up. I a) would have like to have made them better and b) have made an informed decision to switch to Sculpey in future, as Fimo tends to buckle under its own weight and warps on the oven if it's a bigger than normal piece.
But for my first cake toppers I guess they're ok. I'll keep practicing! ;)

Peripeteia

Hello everyone!
I really need to remember to post on this new blog, and get myself out of the Livejournal way of thinking.
I've recently booked a table at the Bristol Comics Convention and have finally once and for all to ressurect the only decent idea I've ever had with regards to writing, and finish it. This time I'm doing it properly. My comics were always done with very little planning and although it made for an organic process, I usually ended up giving up on them or making mistakes in the final pages. So I've been spending any spare time I have roughing thumbnails. Here's a couple of pages of spazzy drawing, I know it's not obvious what's going on as I haven't added dialogue (That usually is the only thing I write as I go, I'm just putting symbols in the speech bubbles now to remind meof what I want the characters to be saying) and the drawings are crap, but I'll keep updating as I go and hopefully soon you should see something half decent.

In other news, I'm continuing to build my unholy army of blue things, another project for the Bristol Con 2010. I want to fill my table with these guys!

My First Real Set Building Job!

I thought I would start off my new blog with the first proper bit of set building work I was able to get, late last year. I did lots of little jobs on it like gluing the lenses into 100 sets of 3D glasses, casting most of the windows on the outside view and whatnot. So here it is! Enjoy!
